Obi-Wan Kenobi star Rupert Friend recently teased some surprise appearances for the upcoming series.
Potential spoilers for the forthcoming series ahead!
Rupert Friend will play a familiar face in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, bringing the Grand Inquisitor from Star Wars Rebels to live-action. Hey U Guys recently caught up with Friend, who talked more about being part of the Star Wars project, praised Ewan McGregor, and teased some surprises to come:
“If it’s possible to be any more excited than folks already are, I would be. I think it’s is one of the most thrilling additions to the Star Wars canon. I think Ewan McGregor is doing things with that role that is a dream for fans of the original films. You know, we can’t obviously have Alec Guinness back, but I just think Ewan was absolutely born to play that part. And wonderful cameos from people I obviously can’t tell you, but Easter eggs galore.”
It feels like a given at this point that a Star Wars series will feature some familiar faces. Obi-Wan Kenobi will, of course, include Darth Vader as the main antagonist and a young Luke Skywalker. Rupert Friend might be teasing what’s already been rumored, a prominent role for a young Princess Leia. Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn and Jimmy Smits’ Bail Organa are also rumored to appear in the series.
Here is the synopsis for the upcoming Star Wars series:
During the reign of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission. Kenobi must confront allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire.”
Directed by Deborah Chow from Joby Harold’s scripts, the series stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. The series will also see the return of legendary Star Wars composer John Williams, who scored a theme.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will hit Disney Plus on May 27, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming series, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
