‘The Walking Dead’ Comics Deliver Biggest Twist Yet With Major Death

The Walking DeadWarning: The following post contains major spoilers on The Walking Dead #192 comic book!

Creator and writer Robert Kirkman and artist Charlie Adlard’s The Walking Dead #192 offered a stunning turn of events with the death of long-time lead character Rick Grimes.

After sixteen years as the lead character of The Walking Dead comics, Rick Grimes’ storyline came to an end with the resolution of a month-long cliffhanger. In the previous issue of the comics, Rick Grimes finds a peaceful solution to preventing a civil war with the Commonwealth community, prompting the displeased son of disgraced governor Pamela Milton, Sebastian, to break into the Grimes home and shoot the Alexandria Safe-Zone leader once in the chest. While Rick Grimes was gravely injured, the issue concluded without revealing if he would succumb to his wounds.

Now, The Walking Dead #192 picks up immediately after the events of the previous issue and begins with Sebastian firing three more bullets into Rick Grimes, leaving him to die alone in his bed. The next morning, Carl Grimes, who is still alive in the comics, discovers his father’s zombified body and shoots him in the head, removing any doubt that Rick Grimes time as the lead hero of the comics has ended.

While Rick Grimes may have met his demise in the comics, the character lives on in AMC’s The Walking Dead universe. However, Andrew Lincoln departed the television series in the previous season and will instead reprise the role for a trilogy of The Walking Dead movies.
