Star Wars Celebration Schedule Reveals Tales of the Jedi Animated Series

Next month, Star Wars Celebration will offer a glimpse at the future of the franchise. However, a programing mistake has already revealed an upcoming animated project. Via GamesRadar, the programing schedule listed a panel for a Tales of the Jedi animated series. The listing was quickly removed, but not before it was seen by fans.

According to the now deleted panel description, Tales of the Jedi will be an anthology series of shorts. Beyond that, all we know is that Star Wars animation veteran Dave Filoni was set for the panel, which suggests that he plays an active role on the show. It also appears to indicate that the series will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation for Disney+.

Now, the title could simply be a callback to the comic of the same name that has a broader focus across the length of the saga. That said, it could also potentially be connected to those stories.

The Tales of the Jedi comics were first published by Dark Horse in 1993 and set thousands of years before the original Star Wars. Those comics paved the way for the Knights of the Old Republic era by introducing fan favorite Jedi Nomi Sunrider and Ulic Qel-Droma. Their relationship and Ulic’s fall from grace fueled five years of stories, and an early clash between the Jedi and Sith orders.

Those stories were rendered non-canon when Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012. But it’s entirely possible that the new animated anthology will feature some nods to the comic that shares its name.
